Hyundai Aims To Reduce EV Charging Time
Hyundai is set to revolutionize its EV lineup with a new e-platform that promises to cut charging times in half. As of late, the South Korean automaker has been in the spotlight for its popular EVs like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Both electric SUVs have seen strong demand despite the overall decline in EV demand. Hyundai has distinguished itself by integrating advanced technologies like Active Air Skirt into its lineup which enhances battery efficiency and overall performance. Now, the automaker is pushing forward with new innovations that will increase EV capability and thus demand for EVs. We’ll discuss Hyundai’s new platforms and see what consumers can expect.
Hyundai Eyes New E-Platform
Hyundai’s new e-platform marks a significant step for the automaker. Hyundai has seen immense success with its EV lineup and now it is trying to further improve its offerings. The South Korean automaker plans to dramatically reduce charging times, a critical factor for potential EV buyers. Hyundai plans to introduce multiple dedicated EV platforms for passenger and commercial vehicles. These platforms will be called eM and eS respectively. Designed for optimal efficiency, these platforms will increase battery capacity and output, supporting Hyundai’s ambitious goal of cutting charging times by 50 percent.
Currently, Hyundai’s 2025 Ioniq 5N model requires approximately seven and a half hours to fully charge. With the introduction of its new e-platform, Hyundai plans to reduce this time to just four hours. The automaker will utilize LFP battery cells which handle more charge cycles and better accept consistent fast charging. This technological advancement will speed up charging and also minimize strain on local power grids.
Hyundai is positioning itself as a leader in the automotive world. As automakers look toward sustainable solutions with EVs, Hyundai will represent the ideal standard. The automaker plans to roll out four new EVs based on these platforms in the coming years. As Hyundai continues to innovate, consumers can expect exciting developments that redefine the future of electric mobility.
